What would a 1937 Singer sewing machine be about worth?

I have an antique machine...serial number AE57020, it was produced in 1937 in Elizabeth, NJ. It is in fair condition, the machine itself is excellent but the wires could stand to be replaced. About how much would an antique dealer pay for a machine like this?

Your serial number should have 6 digits after the AE. If it is 057020 it is a model 221 (aka Featherweight) from 1935-36. If it is AE57020? it is a model 15 from 1937.

The 221 is popular because it is a lightweight 1/2 size machine and quilters like them to take to classes. If it has the foot control, case, manual, attachments, ect., you could probably get $150-300 or more depending on condition.

If it is a model 15, you might get $25 to $100 depending on condition and accessories. Realize that there are thousands of vintage/antique sewing machines as in those days every household had one and thery were built well to last, unlike plastic machines of today.

Have a shop clean and service the machine and replace the wiring. With care, it will still be going strong another 70 years from now.

The American Art Clay Company recently celebrated its first ninety years as America's premier supplier of safe art supplies for schools and professionals. In 1919 the first modeling clay in America was invented, and two years later it published the very first art teacher's lesson plans in America. The first electric kiln designed for use in schools and professional studios followed in 1934.
